What an excellent idea! So many people don't know about Rocky Point. I have been going down from Phoenix for the past 20 years, and every day I run in to people who say they have never been. Rocky Point is a hidden treasure for us Arizonans.

i am a native of phx and have been going to rp since i was 4 yrs old. why does it cost so $ now to spend the night anywhere and why are guns illegal? i used to bring all types of weapons across the border but now i understand that i will be thrown in jail? Is it really safe in Mexico now the Bush is our President? I am scared.

Mexican gun laws have had many restrictions placed upon them for many years. I suggest reading about it on Wikipedia at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_politics_in_Mexico. My guess is that you have been lucky in the past. I am not quite sure what George Bush has to do with Mexican gun laws that have been in place since 1857.

Rocky Point is not a destination for people throwing their tents on the beach anymore. The resorts at Sandy Beach are condos with full kitchens, great ocean views from the balconies, swimming pools and Jacuzzis, and many amenities that Americans have come to want and expect in a vacation destination.

I'm interested in staying at the Sonoran Sea resort, but is there any map of the complex- i.e, how the condo units are numbered and where they're located in the complex?

I've read reviews on TripAdvisor, but either some reviews omitted their condo number or were condos too small for what I'm looking for.

Sonoran Sea condos are numbered as follows:

100's first floor
200's 2nd floor
300's 3rd , etc.

Example:
101W On first floor in the West Bldg which has views of the city

210E On second floor of the East Bldg which has view of the sunset

I am a mid-west American with little knowledge of the Sonoran Desert. Is there any pest problems in Rocky Point? a.e. Spiders, Scorpians, Snakes?

The Sonoran desert is home to Rattlesnakes, Scorpions and Spiders of several different types, some of which are poisonous. While Rocky Point is no exception to the rule, I have never had a report from any of our guests or employees of spiders or scorpions in any of our properties. All properties are regularly fumigated to control pests. Snakes are not seen in the city limits.

The food at the Sonoran Grill (Sonoran Spa) is OUTSTANDING. Maxine prepares incredible food as does her husband John.

The restaurant at the newly opened Sonoran Sky has HORRIBLE food. Very disappointed that they didnt choose someone with a more successful track record in providing a better dining experience ESPECIALLY in that location.

Also, the food at MOAB is marginal at best....the music is played way too loud, and it was about 30 degrees below 0 the last time I was in there and the service was a joke...

But my place at Puerta Privada is awesome...the people that work there are great and all the folks at the Sonoran Resorts are great...

ROCKY POINT ROCKS!!!

We discovered Play Bonita's "Happy Hour" by mistake and spent every "Happy Hour" there for the rest of the week. Great deals on food and drinks and live music.
We are now looking for a new motorhome to park next door so we can spend weeks at a time there.
Watch out for their fried cheese. It'll definately clog the arteries, but it might be worth it!

Find Lukeville, AZ on your map. It is about half way between Yuma and Nogales on the Arizona/Mexico border. You cross the border at Lukeville into Sonoyta, and from there you travel down Mexico route 8 to Rocky Point, Puerto Penasco on the map.

Getting to Lukeville depends on where you are coming from. From Phoenix, you take I-10 to State Route 85 and travel south on it through Gila Bend all the way to Lukeville. From Tucson, State Route 86 through the Tohono O'odham Indian Reservation to Why, AZ. From there travel south on 85 to Lukeville.

From San Diego, take I-8 to Gila Bend and travel south on State Route 85 from there.
